Pardon my language, but what a piece of crap this thing is… it overheated after the first 20 minutes, and we had to leave the kitchen to carry on a conversation… the ice cream machine is louder than my dishwasher. I bought it at my local Target, and should have known that at $24.99, this wasn’t going to be my new favorite small appliance. Also, the box I bought was unopened, but didn’t contain an instruction manual or recipes. We attempted strawberry sorbet. The strawberry puree tastes great, and the sides of the canister did begin to freeze just before it crapped out, so apparently the machine does work a little…but the runny sorbet is in my freezer right now and the Rival ice cream maker is back in its box, ready to return. Disappointing.

This small canister lends itself to experimenting without using large quantities of ingredients. You just have to either keep the bowl in the freezer if you are a spontaneous “cook”, else you have to wait 24 hours for it to get sufficiently cold to produce a batch.
We have explored unsweetened balsamic ice cream used as an inventive salad dressing, using fresh mint from the yard for a palette cleansing course… and you do not have to live with multiple quarts of product. The one quart capacity meets all of our needs.
